Is IE fading away

Yes, IE 8 is slow, it turns out. In fact, slower than any other browser. It’s not a shock really, and now stories from leading PC journalists are reporting the same thing.

This CNET article apparently writes up testing they did among the top browsers: IE 8, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. In most cases, they report that IE was dead last in speed and loading popular websites they tested. That’s not good, considering all the testing they did on it.

I should qualify all of this by saying: I use and love Firefox. It’s much faster, it conforms to most web standards right now, and its a lot better to actually use than IE.

The article is pretty clear and concise as far as the results go. Will Microsoft improve the speed with patches? Probably. But their time for dominating the browser landscape may be slowly fading away.

CNET has just published an article about one writer’s week with IE8 as his primary browser, and he descibes a slow, feature-incomplete week with frustrating roadblocks and a few good words about improving web standards and better overall support for RSS, along with the new security options.

He prefers Firefox, as I do, to be honest. Since I started using Firefox, i’ve barely touched IE. But what do you, our readers think? Anyone use and love IE? Feel free to comment.
